Upper Laguna and Baffin Bay

Slow Fishing -  Not What We Ordered !!

On this fishing trip we did NOT get the Rod Bending that we ordered.  We fished hard and covered water from the upper Laguna in Corpus Christi to the Rocky Slue area in Baffin Bay. 

The bite was really slow !!  We thru top water, soft plastics, suspending baits and the we moves to Life Shrimp.

We caught a total of 6 fish in Two days.  The bits was really off.  We caught 2 Reds, 1 Trout and 2 Black Drum.

Anglers Note:

The weather was really nice.  I am talking perfectly blue skies and light winds on Saturday, on Sunday it was Overcast but super nice…….. and the fishing was truly off.  Not even the simple tap—tap on the soft plastics.

Day two was better, but we had only a few fish, but it was really slow for everyone that we talked to.  In fact the Black Drum bite was the only game in town.  Shrimp on a single hook, free shrimping, was the only real success story we heard.

Remember…. You and I really treasure the great fishing trips and the fish that we caught on those trips.  Fishing events like this really slow trip………………………… keep it REEL !!

Falcon Lake---Big Mouth Bass

Robert Amaya and I fished Falcon Lake in search of Trophy Bass.  This lake is well known for their Major League – BIG Bass.  Located between Texas an Mexico makes it special.  The main thing about this lake is the amazing structure created by the trees that can live in over 10 foot of water,……………. Amazing structure.

The weather was awesome but the bite was really slow and the big girls were out of the area on some other dance floor.  We caught 9 fish, really great compared to other anglers but we were targeting the really big 10 to 11 lb trophy Big Mouth Bass. 

The pictures shown here are of us and some of Roberts bigger female bass.

Robert has been fishing these amazing waters for years and we have another HD Camera Shoot scheduled for May to find the big bass.

He says that this time of year is really smoking and it will build thru the month of March, April and May and said that it is also really smoking in the Summer months----June – July – August are even hotter and most anglers don’t know that they can get Rod Bending action and during these times the lake has a lot fewer anglers on the water.  Call Robert and set up a great fishing trip soon.  Contact information listed below.

 Anglers Note:

Working the lures slowly was really a tough thing.  We knew that the Big female Bass were bedding down and their protective Buck Bass males were beginning to bed down with them and spawn.  We also knew that this was the start of the spawning season and these fish were slow moving and not really into the Heat……. of the spawn.

Robert showed me that moving the bait at a really slow crawl, creap, stop and the wait a few seconds longer and then move it again……………proved to get us the strikes.

Keep is slow,………….,,as hard as it is ……….and then HAMMER  The Hook Set !!!

Smoking Hot Fishing—In Cold Weather

Rich Gidrey and I fished two days out of the Corpus Christi area.  We were dealing with Winter Conditions and ---4 inches of new rain flow combined with high winds,……….. on our first day.  It proved to be an impossible environment to find game fish.  We left Marker 37 and we threw lures for hours…. and we caught –ZERO fish---it was bad.

The Name of the Game for my friend Rich and I has always been, Fish Strategically.  We fished day two, in Nueces Bay, just outside of downtown Corpus Christi.  We used the best of the best, at least in my approximation, look at the lures we used. 

We SMOKED the Reds.  We even caught a 19 in Speckled Trout by accident.

Look at the baits that we used and look at the fish that Rich and I caught. 

As we face each other on the pics, smiling, look at the fish carefully, we caught over 17 big RED’s.  Sometimes the day lines up for MASSIVE Rod Bending Action-----------This was our day…………. TODAY !!

We shot this day on video and made an AWESOME Fishing Show for television.  We will air it soon on National TV and we post a short 2 minute sample on our website.

Anglers Note---

The trick in the Winter time is---SLOW things down.  We found that the Reefs in Nueces Bay were loaded with hungry fish.  The trick is always keeping your bait suspended in the water column and not hung in the structure.  The main structure her is Oyster Reefs.  They are darted sporadically all over the bay system.  Back to fishing techniques----- Keep the retrieve irratic, remember, these fish are in cold water—50 degrees is cold water—They will move slow to attack food sources with a slower movement.

Guatemala Sports Fishing

Guatemala is recognized all over the world for its high concentration of sailfish and is constantly referred to as the “Sailfish Capital of the World”. We fished with the Allure Fishing Team out of  Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.   Below the mountain chains that run the length of Guatemala, from Mexico down to El Salvador, the land gently slopes off and flattens out before meeting the Pacific Ocean. This is a hot and steamy agricultural region with large sugar-cane, pineapple, and banana plantations.

 

 

As “Sailfishing Capital of the World”, the Pacific Coast of Guatemala has the highest concentrations of Pacific Sailfish found anywhere on the planet making it a fisherman’s paradise. Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Tuna are found in such abundance it’s bound to make your Guatemala fishing adventure off our pacific coast a trip of a lifetime.

Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala's largest Pacific Ocean port.  Were 50 miles South of Guatamala City.   Were between Costa Rica to our South and Alcopulco to the North.  On the Western Coastline facing the Pacific Ocean.    Were about 2000 miles South of Mazatlan Mexico and were about 2000 miles North of Colombia South America.

Selected as one of Men's Journal's "100 Greatest Adventures" in the world, Sailfish Bay is Guatemala Fishing at its finest.  Guatemala's Pacific Coast is Literally Sailfish Heaven!

Anglers Note:

The Pacific coast of Guatemala, has strong west-to-east currents that come down from Mexico and meet with the east-to-west currents from the coast of El Salvador. Together these currents create an enormous, natural occurring eddy rich in bait and pelagic fish making it a perfect place to find sailfish, marlin, dorado and many other species in tremendous numbers.  It was these currents and the team approach of the Allure Team that enabled us to smoke some really hot Sailfish  and Dorado.  

We used teasers to draw up the fish from over 1,500 foot of water.  Then we pulled in the teasers and replaced them with either dead bait or flys on the fly rod.  We used 20 lb line on the conventional reels, light tackle, and we used fly rods to catch these awesome fish.  They went to the air far from the boat after a long run and then preformed aerobatic jumps right by the boat too.  It was smoking hot fishing.
