Rich Gidrey and I teamed up with John Tucker of Soldier Rods today to fish Nueces Bay.
We fished with the Marshall Marine Intimidator with our sweet Evinrude 250 E-Tec and were loaded for big reds.
All in all, that is exactly what we found. We smoked top of the slot Redfish and oversized Reds. It was dynamite.
The reefs in the front of the bay did not produce the size of fish we were targeting with our shrimp under a popping cork so we headed for the back by the rail road tracks. This run on a falling tide was risky since we could have ended up stranded in the back or stuck on a mud bar attempting to get out later in the day.
We stuck a piece of wood in the mud near a shore line so we could monitor our water level. From time to time we would check the water level and we found that it was falling out and we were running out of water.
Rich told me to fish the shallow water near an old set of submerged pilings. I got broke off 2 times in the structure then I caught a smoking hot big red, a 36 inch monster right in there with she barnacle laden wood structure. Go figure, structure holds baitfish and GAME FISH.
Anglers Note—
Today we used Soldier Rods, one of our newest sponsor’s products. These rods are top of the top custom rods with spiral recoil line guides, the highest quality blanks and split grip handles. They are by far, the best fishing rods that I have ever used. Visit Soldier Rods at www.SoldierRods.com and you can custom design a rod for your style of fishing.
Until next time, I’ll see you on the water.
