Nueces Bay – Hot RodBending

Fishing Report
Rich Gidrey and I left the boat ramp in Nueces bay at 7am in search of some Hot Summer Rodbending.  That is just what we got….The Causeway was in our sights.  The structure under the main bridge from Corpus to Rockport holds great Redfish, Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Flounder, Black Drum and Sheepshead. It is an amazing place to fish.

Today proved to be a Trout and Redfish day.   We were using live Croaker and Piggies and the bite was definitely on.  There are cement slabs submerged under the water.  They hold baitfish and gamefish.  Be careful in Nueces Bay, there are many-many uncharted obstructions just under the waters surface.  Some are tallis piles of debris, like cement blocks, not to mention the hundreds of shallow oyster reefs.
We were looking for more moving current.  At first there was almost no current and that slowed down the bite but…over time the current picked up and so did the Rodbending.

Anglers Note:
I wanted to mention two points in this anglers note.  One was the use of the current to take the bait to the fish.  We would anchor up current and cast down current and let the bait be taken with the current to the structure under the Causeway.  Cast strategically and work the “Strike Zones”.  Keep you bait in the area where game fish are likely to be.  They will forage tight along the cement in search of baitfish that will hold tight to the cover.  Second…..We let the fish run with the bait for a few seconds ..and then lower the rod tip to the waters surface and ….set the hook.   This is a patient game and it is hard not the just set the hook.  Patience pays off.  Today we caught 19 keeper trout and 4 nice Redfish.

Tony D, our main cameraman caught it all on HD video for our television shows.   Be on the lookout for it on a TV station in your area. It was awesome !!!!! Thanks for your time today and….I’ll see you on the water !!!
