Smoking Hot---Monster Black Drum

Captain Billie Kocian and I headed out early in the AM and we were looking for some rod bending action.  We fished the notorious ----Nueces Bay------- just out of Corpus Christi Texas.
We knew that the cold weather that literally Froze the entire area into a block of “ICE” over the last 1 week----We even had Snow in San Antonio –Texas to show you how cold it got-----------Wow !!!!---------This Cold weather really made the fish run for deeper water in the back bay system.  Based on that, we were on the hunt for fish looking to eat.  We were throwing only artificial lures so we knew that we needed to find fish that were hungry.

We found some really smoking hot Oversized Black Drum in the flats between the reefs in the middle of the bay system.  This area was 2-4 foot deep.   We found schools of 5-25 Drum fish simply crushing the flats.  It was smoking Hot  !!    These Monster- Black Drum were 55-65 lbs and they were just moving slow in the 55 degree water.    We caught nice redfish, 25-30 inches and we even had a Redfish double to end the day.  Guy Douglas of Media Brokers Group was on board to capture the show on HD for Television.  All in all, it was a smoking hot fishing trip.
Anglers Note:
Our equipment involved-----30 lb Braided Line---7 and 8 foot rods with a heavy backbone and both spinning and bait-caster reels.   We had to really work the Black Drum to get them to take soft plastics.  They were really not eating at all.  We threw everything we had at them.  We used Gulp, we used spinner baits, we used swimming tail soft plastics, we used DOA shrimp…………The trick was a snubby pointed tailed “Mister Twister” –DART !! They were in big numbers and they were simply cruising with their group and they had attitude.

We would either spook the fish with the bait as it landed or spook  the fish when they saw the bait.  It was frustrating at first but we were persistent.    It took over 100 casts each for both Billie and I to get Hooked up--------She caught the first mammoth Black Drum and then it was my turn.  The fight for both of our fish was over 15 minutes.  ---This was where Patience and Experience come into play !  These Monsters were simply----- slowly moving and cruising in the shallow water they really were not feeding--------------We had to…………… MAKE them EAT !!!!!!!!!
Contact Billie at the number below or on her website---361-688-8859---billiekocian@yahoo.com--------She can put you on fish too.
Thanks for your Time Today-------------And I’ll See You-------In the Outdoors!!!!!!!!!!
