Captain Nate – Iced Down Sportfishing – Offshore

We left Deep Sea Headquarters at 6am in the Beautiful Custom Bertram 38 foot Special.  Capt Nate Forbes was at the helm.   The event was sponsored by “Iced Down Sportfishing” and “Eco Systems” Fuel Enhancing Systems.

Our plan was to catch bait at an oil platform offshore and use ByCatch from a local shrimp boat to bring up the fish.

The 5 hooked fly type leader at about 50 feet of water was all we needed to fill up the live well.  It was amazing.  Capt Nate kept the transom of the boat 10 feet from the rig and I was landing the mother load of life bait fish.  I think Capt Nate has done this before.

The next stop was the shrimpers for the ByCatch.  We exchanged some well needed supplies for buckets of fish can crabs that the shrimp nets caught along with their targeted table shrimp.

We than headed for a second shrimp boat and began to aggressively chum the water with ByCatch.  Almost immediately, Black Fin Tuna were darting up to the surface to take ByCatch as it floated down in the water column.

It did not take long and we had four hookups on at the same time.  Tony D caught it all on film for our next years season of Inshore Fishing With Super Dave.

Anglers Note:
All in all we caught 8 species of fish.  We caught Ling, Black Fin Tuna, Barracuda, Benita, Red Snapper, Amberjacks, Atlantic Bottle Nose Sharks and some really nice Grouper .

We fished structure in the form of wrecks and rigs and that did not surprise me.  What was amazing was that these fish would actually be waiting for the shirmpers to drop their ByCatch during the daytime.  Shrimp Boats drag their nets at nite and cull the catch in the mornings.  At early afternoon they drop the ByCatch off the back of the boat and these offshore fish are waiting.   Strategic fishing has taken a new twist for me.

It was not stop action and my left arm was cramping from the high energy of these offshore fish.

Call Capt Nate of “Iced Down Sportfishing” out of Port Aransas, Texas----------------512-925-7812.     He can put you on some really awesome fish too.
