Alaska Fishing---KING Salmon

Capt. Joe Warchuck of Fat Salmon Charters in Skagway Alaska was the guest of our video shoot this time in July of 2009.

Today we were targeting King Salmon in Alaska, not our usual master plan.  This trip was truly awesome.  We took a cruise ship into the Northwestern Passage and along the way we took an excursion to catch some King Salmon.  Today’s fishing show will air soon on television.  We will talk about the seasons on King Salmon, we were fishing the end of the season, and we will talk about setting up a cruise vacation to enable YOU to fish Alaska on a budget.  You don’t have to be a wealthy angler to fish Alaska.
The most amazing thing about this fishing was the beauty of the environment.

We were fishing in; believe this on not, 2,500 foot of water.  That’s right, just under a half a mile of water depth.   Clouds were low along the mountains and hump back whales were along the shore.    The brackish water was fed with melting glaciers and salt water.  It was a grey-green and visibility was 1-2 foot.  That meant that we needed sent on our baits and reflector pads for drawing in the hook-ups.

Anglers Note:
We fished with downriggers today to get the hookup.  It was 2.5 knot cursing for the bite.  We used three downriggers and one trolling rodon a diving style spoon with a weight.  Very unusual fishing compared to our shallow water back bay fishing.  We will look forward to airing this show on television for you all to see.  You will be amazed, the trip was rock solid.
