Laguna – Trout and Reds --Hook-Up

Rich Gidrey and I fished the Laguna area, the Upper-Laguna in August of 2009.

We left Billings Bait stand at 6:15am with Piggie Perch and Croaker in persuit of some big Reds and Trout.
Our plan was to drift fish the flats and work the potholes and cuts, ledges and barrier Islands to find some great fish.

The winds were variable, sometimes we had no wind and other times it was clocking around.  In any case the MinnKota 24 volt trolling motor system, proved to be invaluable.  Water clarity was mostly clear to slightly stained.  We caught some solid fish right out of the gate and Tony D, our main video cameraman was onboard for the rod bending action.  Soldier Rods were in action and they did not let us down.
Despite the difficult conditions as it pertains to the wind, we made a great fishing show.

Anglers Note:
Today the bite on live bait was very subtle.  You normally, using 30 or 40 lb braided line, would feel a hard thump and then a slow tightening of the line.  Today, it was very soft and in some times, you would think that is was just your bait moving around.  We would have to let the fish run for a few seconds and then set the hook.  We caught Reds, Trout and even Flounder today all on video.  The show will air later this year and it was, all in all, a really great show with over 20 fish caught on camera.  Even when it’s hot, get out there and get he hookup.
Thanks for your time today and We’ll see you on the water !!!!
Dave
