“Nueces Bay – Smoking Hot Again”

We got on the water again with Rich “MO FISH” Gidrey.    Our plans were to fish Nueces Bay, just outside of Corpus Christi Texas.

Tony D, our main Cameraman was on for the three day shoot with Super Rich and we were ready for some serious Rod Bending Action and that was exactly what we got.

This was a record; we made three fishing shows for television in three days.  Our record prior was two shows in a three day shoot.  The fish gods were on our side.
We used life Croaker and Piggy’s since we are at the tail end of the season for this type of live bait.  We kept the bait alive on Oxygen and we smoked some really nice fish.  Big Trout and Big redfish along with GaffTop Catfish and Mangrove Snapper………………, they all came out to play.  The big finish on day 3 was a 31 ½ inch Redfish in 1 ½ foot of water.  Reefs were all around and we landed this fish and released him to fight another day.

Tony D, even cooked us up some Redfish on the half-shell, man he can do it all.

Special thanks to Rich Gidrey for putting us on the fish, it was awesome.

Anglers Note:
Nueces Bay is a really treacherous place to run your bay boat since the hundreds of Oyster Reefs are not charted on maps, GPS systems or marked on the water.  As a result, few people will fish Nueces Bay.  The reefs and the muddy substructure have a similar head signature on satellite imaging and therefore they are not charted well.

These reefs hold baitfish and a lot of game fish.   We used 30 lb braided line and a 60 lb shock leader to attempt to catch fish in this challenging structure.  We would feel for the bite, let the fish run a little bit and then put it on them.  We did break off over in our attempt to fight these fish out of their natural cover.  It was a challenge but it was, awesome fun.

Thanks for your time today………………….., and…………… We’ll see you, on the water.
Dave
